My 1997 Protege (automatic - 197,000 km) shudders / vibrates quite a bit after restarting it when it's warm. It doesn't stall but just shudders and shakes. If I put it into gear/drive, the shuddering stops and everything is fine. Have had major tune up, new fuel injectors but the problem is still there. Any ideas?

What were the symptoms that prompted the tuneup and having the injectors replaced? Did they start slowly and get progressively worse, or was there a sudden onset? What work did they do regarding the tuneup?

We took the car to a mechanic with the symptoms listed. He was only guessing what it could be. No error codes on the computer. Since it had been 2 years since the last tune up he thought that could be the problem. Also, he cleaned the fuel injectors and suggested driving for about 100 km to see if that would solve the problem - which it didn't. He then said we should change all 4 fuel injectors - still hasn't solved the problem.

Sorry, the symptoms came on quite suddenly but haven't really gotten any worse. It just shudders on a warm start but once in gear it drives just fine.
