87 Mazda w/ 84 Misubishi 4 banger w/ jet valves, weber 32/36 kit no smog crap.

With the engine running if I take off the oil cap there seems to alot of pressured air coming out.

I did the following

replaced PVC valve

thought the cat was plugged and or muffler - cut out and still the same. Though it does sound kinda cool<g>

The engine

has excellent oil pressure and compression
does not smoke or use oil
water level stays correct
does not get hot

I am stumped!!

Are you getting oil in your air filter?

A certain amount is normal. There are pistons going up and down in the crankcase, creating a pumping effect. These pressure variations travel upward through the drain passage for the engine's top end, hence the pulsations. On older engines, the crankcase venting was done through an external pipe. But on new ones, all the vapors and combustion byproducts get recycled to be burned a second time to reduce emissions. This is why you need an oil cap that seals tightly and the PCV valve is a one-way type.

No oil in the filter area at all. I re checked my timing and plugs/wires/PVC and still nothing wrong. The plugs were slightly out but nothing big.

Maybe it's ok? I am used to Chevy V8's and this being my first Mazda PK and all I could be wrong.

When you open the oil cap while running you can Feel air coming out and small dropletts of oil blows out.

Or maybe it's the way I did the motor.

The motor is from an 84 D50 and I changed out oil pans and pump, intakes, distributor, fly wheel to make the change over.

Why? The 87 was shot and I needed a running motor since I did not have time to redo the 87. It's now going to the shop for a upgrade<G>

All in all I have 600 into it, 300 for PK and 300 for the motor and other than the back pressure it runs and drives excellent.

Thanks

Mike
