Iam in need of some advice!! My truck died today it was running fine and suddenly stopped!! I checked for spark and there was none. I let it sit for one hour and it started and ran for 2-3 minutes and stopped again!!
I checked for spark again and there was none. I am thinking ignition coil but understand that the ecm may be the problem! Does any one know how to narrow this down!
I would really appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks
Mark

There's a good possibility that the ignition module is defective. Is this what you meant when you said "ecm"?

Thank you for responding,
When you say ignition module do you mean the igniter inside the distributor? Whe I say ECM I am talking about the computer. Do you know of a way to test the ignition module?

Thanks Mark

The igniter inside the distributor. An oscilloscope is probably the best way of checking things, as it allows you to both see and measure the amplitude of the pulses that trigger the coil.

You can VISUALLY check the ECM (or ECU if you prefer). It is located in the kick on the passenger's side. VERY VERY easy to remove. You will see a Mitsubishi emblem on the outside - the sign of trouble!!. Remove the ECM and then remove the cover screws and look at the circuit board. Mitsubishi used a small electrolytic capacitor and it is prone to leaking. The internal 'stuff' is very corrosive and trashes other components, but remarkably it continues to function nearly normally. The failures are more common in hotter climates (like the interior). If you don't see any ugly messes it 'may' be O.K.. It is a very common problem. Moreso on the B2600 than the B2200.
I actually check mine about once per year. If you catch it early you can avoid a breakdown. I have numerous spare ECU's and a couple of distributors (but ALL for a 2200).

It could be the distributor?? You can also visually check inside the distributor cap (and the rotor). Look for carbon tracking lines (like pencil lines) - which carry the spark off to places other than the spark plugs. Can't offer you much else. Sorry.
Anyway - you have a crappy rainy weekend to work on a vehicle. (I'm in the lower mainland). Gordon

Have a 1990 b2600i with a very similar sounding problem. Changed the gas filter, pump and tank to no avail. Have obtained an ignition modulator and coil in hopes to resolve the problems. Semms to be worse in wet weather. Will post back re the ecm.

It's the engine control box on the right inside behind the panel. I got a rebuilt from a place in texas for about $150. Do a web search. They replace the known weak component with a higher rated. The original will last 65,000 or more (MPV at 80k, B2600i at 135,000 in my case). The "haunted engine" problem will disappear upon replacement. I blamed fuel and spark problems and replaced suspect parts before I got on track. If you uncover the box and keep it cool, you have less "breakdowns" in the meantime.

I had exactly the same problem and it was the module in the distributor. My garage determined that it only went bad when the module got past a certain temperature from a dead cold satrt.
