can anyone help me with how to retrive the odb codes from a 95 millenia. I read somewhere that this model is an odb II, but it has the diagnostic port next to the battery like the odb I models. If anyone can help, please do so.

I just took mt 95 Millenia to 2 autozones 1 Advance Auto and 2 small mechanic shops and they all told me either a transmission shop or the dealer could get the codes because they were not equiped with the old style OBD hookups.

95 Millenia has OBD II diagnostic connector link. Any OBD II scanner can read trouble code from the vehicle PCM when using Generic mode.
The connector link is mounted behind the panel below steering column to the right)

That is weird, my connector is on the driver side of the engine compartment behind the battery near the firewall with "diagnostics" clearly written on the clip off cover. (95 Millenia L by the way)It has 25 seperate pins in 2 distinct rows under the same cap. i tried to get the codes by shorting ground with pin "TEN" but get no flashing codes just a steady check light on.
If i unhook battery and reset, it goes away then comes back after maybe 10 seconds. The codes i am looking for are pertaining to my HOLD light flashing and tranny in failsafe mode. the tranny itself is not slipping since it shifts hard and cleaning but at the wrong times with no O/D. when i get my codes read i can pinpoint whats up with this thing.

That connector is the factory Diagnostic Data Link Connector. It is not OBD II connector.

I looked under the dash closely and only found a white plastic plug with 10 pins not connected to anything...it looked like it was maybe a accessory on the car that i dont have. I could not find an OBD connector anywhere under the dash. Is it possible that the diagnostics connector under the hood is the only one on the car?

1995 Mazda Millenia, Protege and all 1996 and later Mazda for sale in US model vehicles have On-Board Diagnostic System II (OBD2).

Thanks Tree,i found it! What gets me is the idiot incompetent mechanics that stuck their heads under the dash and told me there was no OBD-II connector!
I'm off to auto zone to get my codes read.
