I think you just answered my posted question by mentioning your problem. My overdirve light has started blinking and I wanted to know what could possibly be wrong. Can you tell me more about how your problem started and how did you end-up re-building your transmission? Is the blinking an indication that you need to re-build your transmission?
Thanks
Sean

Sean,,,,,my wife drove the car from florida to NC and 2 hours before her destination the overdrive off light started to blink ....the car still had overdrive , but it shifted into gears hard. I thought it might be electrical but couldnt find anything wrong. I posted what happened here and got no responses so i just did some research on the internet and found out if was the transmission. I took it in to the trans shop and sure enough, these mazdas are bad when it comes to transmissions, The person gave me a break on labor because i didnt need the car right away ..$1621 but now i have this clucking sound when i go over a bump. Its never ending!!!! Good luck Sean but I think your in the same boat as i was in........BILL

Thanks Bill. I think I am exactly at your situation now. the only hope I have is that previous owner has bought an extended warranty for the car. I now have to start looking for her and have her sign the warranty transfer papers. I hope I can do this without spending a whole lot of money.

Bill, I would check the engine mounts first. the repair people might have forgotten some of main bolts between transmission and engine or on the engine mounts. the engine mounts themselves may go bad very easily. there is normally a thick piece of rubber between two parts that are bolted to the body and engine. the rubber pieces get torn or deteriorated over time, and will cause excessive engine movement in respect to the body. this will cause noises of the type you are talking about (basically you engine is loose and moves back and forth when you accelerate or decellerate). I had an old camrey that had this problem.
