If there's a problem, owners, and even people who don't own Mazda's will be screaming bloody murder. Check out some other Mazda forums and see what you find out.

Ihave run into3 people who have ahd tranny trouble with the 2000 626 one at 38000. the o/d light comes on and the transmissin starts doing real weird things. I am changing mine, has anyone heard anything about this. Everyone I speak to says they are notorious for tranny issues, even the dealer mechanic said, "Well they have issues with the Mazda transmissions."

Well take it to the Mazda dealer and have them replace it under warranty. If it only has 10k on it then, they damn well better replace it at no cost to you and give you a comparable care at no cost to you either.

It is interesting that I have hard time selling my 99 626 ES V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission. The car is in mint condition and I have never had any transmission or clutch problems. People are too lazy to use the clutch, however they are missing out on a very reliable and extremely well maintained one owner vehicle in mint condition with factory sunroof, Bose system, and leather seats, alloy wheels, and great Michelin Energy tires.

Manual transmission is ten times better than an auto in this car. It is much more fun to drive, it is faster, gets better gas mileage, and the transmission will probably last 300K miles. If driven conservatively , the original clutch is good for 200K miles, and it costs about $ 500 to replace the clutch (including labor). And no such thing as a "rebuilt clutch".
