Stalling problem

I have an 88 B2200 p/u, automatic 3speed + O/D.

My little bundle of joy runs beautifully normally, but this winter had a problem that seemed like flooding when going uphill at highway speeds when the engine was warm... It ran like it was flooding until it was shut off and restarted... then ran fine... usually performed by popping it into Neutral, and starting it while coasting... this problem seemed to be corrected by spraying down the linkages with white grease.

Tonight had to have baby towed home, it stalled suddenly while driving about 4 times... once on the highway, and a few times on city streets... just quit all of a sudden. After a few seconds, restarted fine, except the first time... then it needed to turn over for about 30 seconds... the last time it quit, it just wouldn't start... It doesn't seem to have any spark coming from the coil wire.

Confused here... if it was the timing belt gone, I wouldn't have expected it to start again the first few times... so I'm thinking either the coil (or coil wire) or the ECU ignition module that I've read so much about.... any help here would be VERY much appreciated... living in a remote area, the vehicle becomes a necessity of life...

Thank you for the response... the starter's fine... it's turning over like there's no tomorrow... but won't fire... I pulled the coil wire, and used a screwdriver to try to see if there was arc to the prop-rod... couldn't see any spark from the coil.

sometimes the solinoid goes out but the starter motor will still crank the engine, if the solnoid goes bad you won't have any spark at all.

Thank's Patrick... I appreciate the help. I'll give that a try and see if that brings life back into it.

My 1988 B2200 did similar, stalled at 60 mph, later more often. All my electricals such as dash lights, stereo, etc., went out. This turned out to be my electrical portion of my ignition switch, a common problem as these vehicles age. Part was $103 at dealer, but at least it was in stock; being in stock at local dealer means they go through a number of them, as they don't stock a lot of "vintage" parts.
