I bought a 2000 millenia 2.3S 10 months ago. The milage is 2.2K, and it's the beginning of the nightmare,I fixed the electric valve and front left door lock, AC air fan motor, TCS hose, change left front catalyst in 6 months, at last I find out the exact milage should be 5.0K not 2.2K, I don't know how the sales did this job. Fortunnately it's 4 months nothing happen till now.I hope it can be continuous. Be careful of the dealers/sales. Make sure everything is O.K. for the car.

Take a look at all the horror stories in this forum about Millenias. Some owners have even had them crushed because they are so frustated with all the problems. Unless you are an extremely wealthy person with an equal amount of patience you should not even think about owning a Millenia! Probably the worst and most unreliable car ever to come out of Japan or anywhere. My advice: run away from this deal as fast as you can !!!!!!!!

I have a 2001 with 40,000 and have just been informed that the engine is blown. It was 8 days out of warranty. The cause they tell me is engine sludge due to improper oil changes.

Linda:
You are being taken for a ride by some mechanic or the Mazda Stealer. I've been a Class A certified mechanic for 30 years and have NEVER heard anything so rediculous. Try getting another opinion from someone you can trust! The only way your engine could get in such bad shape from an oil related problem is if it ran out or was run at very high speeds with little or no oil. Sluldge will not cause an engine failure as you describe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mazda Millenia S

I have a 2000 Millenia S Millenium Edition and I love it. I've had an intermittant problem with the check engine light coming on due to a sensor, but I won't spend the money to fix until I absolutely have to. Other than that no specific problems, it's been a great car. The main issue to consider is whether you like the automobile. If the person has mazda service records that's even better. I traded in a Honda CR-V for this car and haven't regretted it. My service costs on the Honda were 5X more than this car, and it was a brand new. I bought the millenia with 42,000 miles on it. A mechanic told my mom's boyfriend that the best cars on the road are Hondas and Mazdas.

Sludge

Sludge is a possiblity. I worked at a Toyota Dealer and found that the highlander has had problem with sludge ruining the engine, but they're replacing it as a goodwill service. I believe it is from not changing your oil enough though.

I own a 2001 Mazda Millenia with 80k miles on it and I bought it brand new. I love this car and have owned 7 cars before this (including Toyota and MitsuSHITi)and by far this is the best one. This car has NEVER had a problem other than my o2 Sensor. I even had fun modifying it slightly. I am very sad that soon i will be selling this car. I wish mazda still made New Millenia's.

If it were me I would shy away from the S model. Call the local dealer and price the 30,000 and 60,000 services then make a decision. The are a good car but hard to work on because of the supercharger.
