Response to Re: Mr Weidendorf's lifter bore bushing kit?

Oiling problems increase by the amount of Rpms turned and the cam type and amount of lift. Roller lifters seem to create more problems than flat tappets. I usually use a .040 hole in solid roller and mechanical flat tappet cams for Drag race use but a hydralic roller or hydralic flat tappet will need more oil to operate correctly. I recommend using a Moroso oil restrictor kit, additional restrictor for the number one cam bearing in addition to using lifter bore bushings. I talked to a Comp Cams rep at Route 66 Dragway, and he said much of the problems with Roller lifters comes from the "Smile" machined into the lifter body. He also mentioned that Mopar and AMC racers also suffer the same fate. Bushings solve some of the problems that certain lifters create by allowing too much oil to pass by them. It is not the lifter to bore clearance that creates the problem as much as the location of under cuts to the lifter body, size and location of the oil holes and how far the lifter is up or down in the bore that allows oil to pass around them. It is impossible to know if you are going to have problems because of all the variables involved.
