I'm sick and tired of my older cars producing hazy fumes from the engine compartment when coming to a stop (which in L.A. we do a heck of a lot.) I've already addressed the issue on my '59 Ford vehicles by putting a plate under the carb, and attaching a threaded pipe to the back of the intake manifold. Now I'm moving on to the Lincoln's. Has anyone else done something similar? I can do the under the carb plate, but where is a place to hook up the other end without drilling wholes?

Re: PCV valve set up for 430
Rick, how about using a snout type oil filler tube cap and rout a rubber tube right into the carb base plate? I think I have once purchased a chrome cap w. snout from a Ford dealership many years ago.
I would probably not be a perfect PCV solution but should work fine to some extend. It's cheap and no extra holes are needed.

To properly vent a 58/60 MEL to PCV, the internal road draft tube has to be blocked off. The best place for the actual draw would be at the rear of the valley cover as on the 61/ .

Thanks Kultulz,
That's exactly what we were thinking, but couldn't find any place already threaded. The next question would be did you route that to the carb.? And if so did you use a spacer plate?
All the best...
Rick

58/60 MEL still had the internal road draft tube that just blows all the gasses from the crank into the environment? I thought those became illegal in the early fifties.

I also have a '61 falcon were the draft tube is exhausted straight to the environment.

Easiest routing (vacuum source) would be a carb spacer.Shelby#18 wrote:

Shown is 1962 430 routing.
Re: PCV valve set up for 430
This is the rear vent (road draft) in the 58/60 engine that needs to be removed and replaced with an expansion cup to retro-fit PCV.
.
There is also a road draft tube at the bottom that needs to be removed and replaced with a cup

How about routing a suitable hose from the road draft tube outlet at the bottom of the block , around the back of the block to your carb spacer plate ? This would still get you to your proper evacuation point without tearing into the engine and having to replace gaskets and the valley cover, which I am sure is hard to find . I'm sure everyone here is talented enough to hook it up without making it look too tacky. I just have to add, for me the number one priority is not the smelly fumes, but the damage done by water vapor and other chemicals without adequate ventilation of the crankcase. Before PCV we had to dig pushrods & lifters out of the valleys etc. up to two inches deep with sludge.
