Can a 410 (4.2 bore) be bored to a 430 size (4.3) safely? I have found a NOS set of forged 11.5:1 4.3 standard sized pistons.

I don't know the answer to this question. You would think so as MEL would not have to cast more than one block. There were a few 410 users on the old board. Maybe if you cruise through there you can find an E-Mail for one of them. Having it sonic checked is the only other way I would know.

Here's a sonic test sheet for a '58 Edsel 410 that was already 0.060" over. It potentially could have been bored out to 4.300" and still had the prerequisite 0.100" minimum remaining. This particular block had a porosity problem in one of the cylinders and was replaced with another block rather than sleeve the questionable cylinder as this engine had a history of other issues also. If core shift is taken into account on a block that's still a standard bore or close, then the cylinders can be offset bored to keep a more uniform cylinder wall thickness.

Big Engines are quick but it's hard to beat the fun that comes from running a normally aspirated Y-Block at 8.80's and 147 mph in the quarter.

Hello guys,

Does anyone know what the conrod lenght and piston pin diameter is for the 430 and the 462?

Also were the 462 created by opening up the bore from 4.30" to 4.38" and using the bigger crank in a 430 block?

Are the 430 and 462 identical besides the piston and crank?

Cheers Angelo
