To Lock or Not to Lock

The MEL's connecting rod nuts are secured w. with exactly these locks. Those remind me at a WW2 aviation engine that I once had the chance to examine. I don't want to reuse the old locks but don't have new ones. Should these locks be used at all circumstances or can they be skipped? What do you nuts think? Lock or not to lock?

...installing these rod bolts and nuts, especially if you have the rods resized. It appears the same size are used in the FE. There will be no failure with these.

You might also want to contact a poster here by the name of Jim (rodder@intertex.net) as he has exstensive experience with these engines and can give you a detailed answer quickly I am sure.

This pal nut was discontinued from service when determined unnecessary- 1958 LM TSB NO. 40
