May 29th: took the E to a local cruise night with friends.
Washing the cars before the show:
Driving to the show
At the show, parked next to my buddy's 66 rambler.
there was a guy there with a 58 edsel Ambulance but I forgot my camera in the car and he took off before I got a pic but it was sweet

Re: 1958 Edsel Corsair 2 door Hardtop
June 1st. Since my engine has oil pressure & oil consumption issues, I was able to track down another E475 Engine to tear down & rebuild while I cruise the Edsel so once the engine build is complete I can just do an engine swap with minimal down time. I got the engine from a really nice Edsel enthusiast in madison named Harv, although the engine was at his friend's place. 10 hour day. Drove to Madison, picked him up and drove an hour and a half north to his buddy's house to pick up the engine. He had 4-5 Edsels rotting away in his backyard, and some sweet cars in his shop including a edsel circle track race car he built out of junkyard edsels.
here's the guy's shop, note his mint Citation in the foreground and the Edsel circle track race car he races in the vintage classes. It's made out of 3 junk cars so he doesn't care that it's butchered up.
here's the other side with the mint 57 chevy 4 door in the backgroud and a clean 72 Olds 98
here's his dad's old circle track car rusting away in his front yard, note the full floater rear axle:
here's his Edsel he had in highschool that he's planning to restore:
and here are the rest of the edsels rotting on his property:
he said at one time he had 84 Edsels, they all were parted out and scrapped
and after dropping off the guy that sold me the engine, I mentioned that my drivers window was cracked and he sold me all 6 pieces of glass and the trim with the wing windows and rocker panel patch panels all for an extra $20!!
so here's the engine, strapped to a pallet and stored on pallet racking back at the shop I worked at

June 9th:
here's the climate control assembly that the motor you see on the end moves the arms to push and pull cables to open and close the vents, depending on the position of the control cable attached to the control wheel

July 15th:
got the new dial to replace the broken one so maybe my climate control will finally work
I got new license plates:
In Illinois, you're allowed to run year of manufacture plates if you have antique plates
and last but not least:
scored this for 150 on ebay, brand new. still gotta get speakers tho but it'll be nice to listen to something besides the lack of exhaust and the valves ticking when the oil pressure drops

August 19th:
Money is tight so I've stuck to low buck projects till I can afford the engine rebuild.
working on putting in a new drivers window, just having trouble cause the new/old one I got, the chrome surround trim isn't securely glued to the glass so I'm battling how to solve that problem
door panel is shot
but I'm counting on trying my hand at upholstery over the winter or next spring, I want to change the interior color to turquoise and white to match the exterior better.

September 24th:
here's the new dial installed:
if you look at a few pages ago, you'll see the markings are differnt, Edsel did a mid model year change to the face of the dial. I switched from the early style before to the late style I have now. and like the speedometer, the needle stays stationary:
and then I was playing with the camera lit
my shift buttons lit
back
front
and I think I forgot to post these, but I bought them to install over the winter, the antenna on the fender is broken and these were an option that I thought this car really needed
45 degree rear antennas

Re: 1958 Edsel Corsair 2 door Hardtop
September 27th. Passenger side carpet keeps getting wet. the car never sees rain... gettin to the bottom of this
making sure the hose to the valve has the vacuum it's supposed to
figured out I was getting no heat, no coolant flow cause the vacuum diverter valve was stuck
lubed it up and worked it till I was getting full vacuum range down to none as I should.
leak was a bad hose end. cut off a fresh piece and now it seems ok.
replaced the little piece of vacuum line between the 2 heater valves so long as I was in there.
time to put it back together and let's try this one again.
cable is adjusted, vacuum is good, heat's roasting now
out on the street I go, I'm burning daylight
