Hi all:
What is the engine color for the '58 Mercury, 383 cubic inch. Got some rough spots on one piece and want to paint to match original orange/red color.

I'm not an expert w. te orig. color codes, but my best bet would bre to go to a competent expert shop. GThey can usually mix you any color w. the computer.
Wait a little. Maybe some folk in this forum knows about orig. color codes. good luck.

Maybe this will help. I have had my TPC for over 45 yrs. exterior painted because I wore out the paint when I was a
teen. As far as the engine color (never touched) the fan is red, air cleaner and valve covers are red and the block is
gold which I think is Golden Dusk Met. and the oil pan is like a flat silver. After having many 58s there were some
differences. It could be as what plant it came from like it may have came from Canada. For example I have come upon
keyboard control bezel with Keyboard Control stamped on the top on Ebay. I have never seen one. Or could these
little differences could be early models built in Dec. of 1957. I dont know, mine was built in May of 1958. All I know is
mine is original and now questions on 430s their all Gold. Next puzzel is the air cleaner with a raised center cover,
again I have never seen one. I have always seen a flat cover. Oh also the red is more like red orange like a 283 SB or
something. hope this is helpfull sam

sorry I though you were looking for what colors. The only thing I can think of is a (I think) a spectrometer. My paint
store has one, you just bring the best example you have this thing scans it and prints a paint code. Just about all
57 & 58s have scratches where one takes the gauge cluster up to perhaps change speedo cable or bulbs. I had these
scratches so I brought my ash tray there it got scanned and I got a perfect paint match. sam
