I have a casting number on the crank that came out of my block. It is (EDF).
Can somebody tell me if this is a 430 or 383 crank? If it is indeed a 383 crank can you please tell me a source for a 430 crank? I really want to get as much horsepower out of this block as I can (within reason $$$).

Also, I am in need of the inserts that go into the block next to the two small thermostats.

Crank Stroke And Coolant Diverters.
EDF is new to me. I have not come across that I.D. marking yet. The reference may be either in Service Information (TSB) or Parts Information (which I do not have for early years)

I.D. Nos. For The Early MEL;

EDG is the 383 4.30" Bore By 3.30" Stroke
EDH is the 410 4.20" Bore By 3.70" Stroke
EDJ is the 430 4.30" Bore By 3.70" Stroke

If your machinist cannot supply a 430 crank kit (regound crank with bearings), you will have to look around to find one. Ask here and on the LCOC Board. You may also find one in HEMMINGS.

As for buying a complete overhaul kit, I would maybe price the components separately. I always worry about quality in kits. If EGGE will tell you where the components are sourced from (Clevite-etc.), it will give you a better idea of what you are getting.
