383 or 430

Post by lez » Sat 29. Aug 2009, 07:06

Hi,I am rebuilding my 58 Mercury Parklane engine. The engine has been replaced sometime with an ECG (383?) block. When I removed the crank it is a ECJ (430?).The pistons are also ECJ.The cam only has 8A or BA on it and is colored red on the end.Any other ways of finding out if it is a 430 (happy) or a 383 (sad). Thanks,Les

You can measure the bore X Stroke
...... bore....stroke
383 4.30 X 3.30
410 4.20 X 3.70
430 4.30 X 3.70
