Those seals you're talking about look in some instances like these ones. There are a few different types on the market. Sorry for being short. I have to leave my desk. Will get back on this soon.

By the way, I did a repair , don't know how long it will last, but it is holding so far. I ran it for 30 minutes and No more smoke out the tail pipe. No eight cylinder had one cracked seal . I glued it together with a two part plastic that the body shops use to repair plastic fenders. Good stuff. Tuff as nails. Seems to be putting up with the heat. That seal was on the exaust valve. I repaired and moved it over to an intake valve thinking that would be a little cooler. A good way to check is like someone else in here said and that was check the spark plugs. The bad cylinder spark plug was sooty black. Still need some new ones. Appreciat the input.

What kind of repair exactly did you do?`Did you glue together an umbrella seal or did you allready have positive valve seals installed??

I repaired the cracked umbrella seal by gluing it with the same stuff the body shops repair plastick bumpers with. Worked great, no smoke. I still would like to know about these positive seals people are talking about. Would like to get a set for the future. Come on back.

Dunno 'bout the compound you used, but wouldn't it have been safer to just buy a cheap set of umbrella seals. Hope it holds O.K. and will not fall apart one day. I would recommend to use replacement umbrella seals.
Good luck
Good luck

the positive seals yu are talking about were brought out by Perfect Circle in the early 60's or so. they will have 1 or 2 metal wire rings around them. the valve guides have to be machined for them to fit on the guide. If your guides are loose, (can you wigle the valve much?), it needs the guides reconditioned any how, and is a good time to instal the PC seals. If you want to do it cheap and the guides are acceptable, just install some new umbrella seals.Go t oNAPA an tell tehm you need valve stem seal for a 1970 Ford F-250 with a 390. same seal. Have fun removing the rocker arms, spark plugs. Then putting air pressure on each cylinder , and compressing the valve spring to get at the valve seal. almost quicker, and a beter result, to pull the head and do it right. Up to you, have fun,Henry
