DIY 030 Battery Tray Fabrication

Post by 59lincolnrag » Wed 4. Mar 2020, 10:29

This Battery Tray Fabrication is based on an Exide Select Performance Commercial Marine battery
Cold Cranking Amps : 925 Amp
Cranking Amps : 1050 Amp

Voltage : 12 Volt
BCI Group Number : 31
Terminal Location : Top
Reserve Capacity : 180 Minutes
Length (IN) : 6-13/16 Inch
Width (IN) : 13 Inch
Height (IN) : 9-7/16 Inch
The dimensions are up to you based on the battery you choose. If you have a large vise and a hammer. You can buy some dimensional steel or aluminum even some scraps will do. It should not be too hard to fabricate.

Here are the parts I hand Fabricated.
Tray
Exhaust shield
Side heat shield
Hold down frame
This fits 58-60 Lincoln

Here is what it will look like assembled. The Zig-Zag shield is for the exhaust manifold Note: The side shield should be in the front. I lined the tray with 1/2 " Plywood for the tray and made two 1/4" Plywood inserts to act as insulation for the sides.

Here is the finished Project. I am experimenting with PVC Sheet for insulation. I welded the hold down frame together and welded on two 90 degree brackets for the hold down rods. One coat of primer and two coats of Hammered Dark Gray paint. You can Pop Rivet the parts together if you want. Make sure you use stand-offs for the exhaust shield, it really gets hot.
So now there's 1050 Cranking Amps available.
