Distributor install in most MELS
It's possible when installing a Distributor that you may be one tooth off. Pull the coil wire. Remove number one plug. Crank the motor. The compression of number one will blow your finger away. Look at your balancer. Turn the motor back to align with 0 degrees on the harmonic balancer. Then look at your distributor cap and mark number one wire on the distributor casting. Remove the Distributor cap. The rotor should be real close to number one. If not Pull out the distributor And carefully re-install You will notice that the rotor will turn as it goes in. If it does not line up back that is to say it goes beyond number one, back it off one tooth and re-install, You will feel it in the rotor. Notice the rotor lines up perfectly with number one. Please note: You may need to bump the starter for it to "drop in"'. That's because your also lining up the oil pump drive shaft. Be careful, if that drive shaft falls out of place your gonna have a bad day.
