Re: My 62 Lincoln Continental
The kit you ordered will come with instructions , just pay close attention to them and you will be fine . The kit will include a new needle & seat assembly , and together with exacting instructions on adjusting the float level , your problems will be solved.

Re: My 62 Lincoln Continental
The part in question is the hold down for the float hinge pin, it slides in from the top in grooves on both sides . It also acts as a baffle for fuel spray as the needle valve opens. Without it the pivot pin would just slide upward and not apply pressure to the needle valve. Varnish from old gasolin...

Re: Rebuild or...
Josh, I have never done it on a lincoln, but timing chain replacement used to be a commonplace job for me over the years. I have never had to pull an engine to replace a timing chain. Just follow your manual ,you will be fine. If you haven't bent any valves you may run for many miles without having ...

Re: Carbs and fuel issues
Also check out, " Spacer to adapt a PCV valve to a MEL " eight topics down from this one . I am pretty sure, by law every auto made in the US by 1962 , had to have PCV . I have been working on cars for over 50 years and I remember well the difference that little valve made ,at least up here in the n...

Re: Carbs and fuel issues
I second the spacer idea . Also if the electric fuel pump was installed under the hood instead of near the tank ,you may have problems . Electric fuel pumps do a better job of pushing fuel rather than pulling , especially when you have heat issues, and possible vaporization of the fuel . Keeping fue...

Re: Rebuild or...
I think the leakdown test is an excellent idea ,even with makeshift equipment. I have made adapters from old hollowed out spark plugs welded to fittings to hook up to shop air. Just listen to where the leaks are, some leakage past the rings is normal , past the valves is not. My guess would be ,the ...

Re: Engine Running Problems
If you are sure that you have erratic spark then the problem has to be in the distributor. If you have point type ignition, point gap is very critical. Worn bushings etc. can make accurate adjustment impossible. Check for worn bushings by pushing the shaft from side to side with the points on the hi...

Re: Transmission leak / '58 Merc Monterey
You're welcome ! The 58 is a very rusty parts car , the engine in it needs to be rebuilt but it is my backup for my 56 Montclair 2 door hardtop, in case I blow it up.

Re: Transmission leak / '58 Merc Monterey
I have a 58 383 in my junk lot, it is pretty much intact as yet. I went out and took a look I was amazed at how much I had forgotten about pushbutton transmissions ! What I saw and then remembered was the diaphragm that is set up hooked into the vacuum line from the manifold for the start system. Wi...
