Re: 62 430 carb swap

It should bolt right in , just look for differences in throttle linkages and choke mechanisms.

Re: A photographic reminder to replace your timing set

:) Have you ever heard the old proverb; a chain is only as strong as the weakest link ? If it will make you feel better the modified oil pump shaft is reasonably priced. The ends of the shaft are still the same size ,I cannot see that it would make any difference on rotational torque strength . I ha...

Re: Engine Oil Pressure

Your oil pressure is perfectly normal . An old hot rod rule of thumb for oil pressure says you need 10 PSI for every 1,000 RPM. The only way to have high pressure at idle would be to install a high volume pump . But I wouldn't worry in the least about that kind of pressure. As far as compression pre...

Re: 1960 Mel Rebuild Question

The harmonic balancer must be pulled all the way in against the pump drive or everything will work loose and wear out . Its been several years since I worked on mine , so I don't remember for sure but I think there may be a spacer between. Possibly it was left out at a previous timing chain replacem...

Re: Ballast resistor bypass

In 1955 and '56 US car makers went from six volt to twelve volt ignition systems. Most engineers improved the starting ability of these cars by using a bypass system. They did so by using a coil that would give ample ignition with the voltage reduced by a ballast resistor under run conditions. For s...

Re: 1958-60 MEL exhaust manifolds

I ran into the exhaust manifold thing way back in the sixtys when I stuffed a 58 Mel into a much smaller framed '56 Mercury. I think the reason for the shape of the manifolds was to fit the engine into the frame that had been designed for Ford, Edsel, and Mercury beggining with the 1957 Models . I h...

Re: Camshaft wear...

The wear shown is the result of a lifter that has worn concave and started cutting on the camshaft, very common with nearly all older engines. If you hold the lifter up to light you will be able to see the concave surface. Yesterdays oils were not that good!

Re: Engine mounts...

I was curious so I checked the link ,the mounts shown must be only for a 430 in a Lincoln . I know the Mercury application takes quite a different mount and I am guessing the Edsel would be more related to the Mercury . I hope you can find some.
