427 Core Plugs

Has anyone had success removing the threaded in side core plugs (freeze plugs) from their 427's during rebuilds? Some sources say they aren't meant to be removed, and it could damage the block casting. I've tried, and they must don't seem to want to budge with normal efforts.

I want to get the block's water jackets completely stripped of rust, and having the plugs out will help.
