My blown up 428CJ's used a Performer RPM Manifold, Ed 427 MR heads, a .571 lift solid flat tappet cam with the factory type (not shell) lifter, PumpBuilder stands/end stands, Comp 1.76 roller rockers and Ford MotorSports Push Rods. This combo went together very well with no pushrod clearance issues or adjuster problems and served me well for 9 years and about 10K miles.
The 445 Stroker I putting together will have the same intake, but with ED CJ heads, a Comp 294S Cam & Lifters (.605 lift)and I will reuse the pushrods, Stands/End Stands. I have decided to give it a new set of rocker arms and I was thinking about stepping up the the Harland Sharp 1.76 Bushed Rockers.
As I understand it the valve spacing and location is the same between the Ed MR & CJ heads, is this correct? Also are the HS rockers identical dimension wise to the Comps? Is there any chance of pushrod interference with the holes in the intake, the cup of the pushrod or the amount of adjuster exposed with the HS rockers in this configuration? I want to nail this down before I order the rockers. Thanks. ww
The valve spacing should be the same with the 2 heads.
The Comp rockers, if I recall right, has the adjusters offset about .05 away from the stands to help with pushrod hole clearance. The HS rockers don't have this so the pushrods will be a bit closer to the stands and closer to the stand side of the pushrod holes.
Yes the Comp adjusters are offset, I remember setting up and shimming the Comps on the 428 engine. This is whay I'm asking the questions about the HS rockers. I want to use them on the 445 but not if I have to start modifying the intake. Thanks. ww
You can request a shim kit when you order your rocker setup

If your ordering a whole shaft setup. I had issues with my tunnel port heads aligning with the rocker arms. I called HS and they sent me a shim kit at no charge. This kit allowed me to dial in the rocker alignment dead on.
The only problem I had was pushrod alignment which was due to the intake tubes that ultimently had to be capsule shaped {ie, not a fault of HS]..............Mike
The valve spacing between the 427 and the CJ style E-bocks are the same. Valve spacing on both E bocks is 2.045. In comparing the FoMoCo M/R head, to the Edel 427 head, the intake is in the stock location and the exhuast has been moved in .065 in towards the bore center.
In comparing the FoMoCo CJ/L/R head to the Edel CJ style head, The intake has been moved away .065 from bore center and the Exhuast is in the stock location.
The rocker bodies on the HS are 1.05 wide. the Comps are 1.215 wide and designed for there assembly.
Comp uses a .5 in roller H/S uses a .607 in. roller. Sharp recommends no more than three adjuster threads be exposed out of the bottom of the rocker body.
Chevy valve spring shims are used to adj /space the rockers on the shafts and can be obtained from your local parts store. They can be had in approx .060 .030 .015
If you go this route, and need some .015's I have lots ot them and will swap you for some .030's via mail.
I run the H/S on Dougs shafts with old FPP stands(Made by Doug) on Cj style E bocks too... its good set up

Thanks Bob that is exactly the info I was looking for. Looks like the only question not answered is if the Ford MotorSports pushrods will accomodate HS's spec on the amount of adjuster threads exposed. But I guess I won't find that out till I start putting it together. Thanks also for the offer on the shims but I will need to get an assortment so I have what ever it requires. ww
No the Ford MotorSports pushrods worked fine with the Comp/PumpBuilder setup, 9 years/10K miles. I just hope the HS's work with them as well. I have 3 good sets of MotorSports pushrods. ww
