Would you guys mind helping me out with all the engine codes? I know tbird used Z&M codes, and I read about R codes all the time. Last week someone had a G code I think. Can you list off the various engine codes and what they are. Thanks for the info...Bob C

The codes change from year to year

For example, Code "G" for the engine (fifth character in the VIN) is a 406 in 1962 - 63.

However, code "G" in 1969 - 70 is a Boss 302.

There are lots of codes for each model year. A CD or paper (preferred) copy of the Ford Master Parts Catalog is a good reference, so is the factory shop manual for each particular car line.

I found them in the text catalog. I see what you mean about the designation changing from year to year. And for you trivia fans...
B code, 1962, 406 ci, 4v, 385 hp
B code, 1965, 240 ci, 1v, police & taxi, 155 hp
