I am switching my 63 Galaxie 500 from 14" to 15" wheels. Wondering for some suggestions on the largest tire that I could mount on 5.5" inch wide Ford rims and have sutitable clearance on my Galaxie. I want to get the most tire on it that will work. Thanks.

You can't use a very tall tire. I tried 265's on mine and they

rubbed the inner edge of the fender. They looked great and seemed to clear well and only find out about the problem when I turned the first corner. RW

I ran G-70 x 15 on my Galaxie. The rims were 6". The H-70s would rub.......

.......on sharp turns, no P/S, JMO, Rod. BTW, the year is 1976.

This size works well on the 5.5" wheel. Val.

I'm running four Cragar 15 x 7's with 275 x 60R15's on the rear and 245's on the front. Any larger on the front and they hit on the inside and affect turning radius.

I might have room in the rear to go to 295's but would need 8" rims. With 275's you need to angle the tire out to get them on and off. Rear tread is 8.5" if I remember correctly.
