Was curious if anyone has done or read about swapping in a big block(FE) into this year car? From my understanding the 64 Thunderbolts came from the factory with the correct modifications for these motors? doesn't look like much room even for the 289/302 blocks. Other than the shock towers what kind of other hacking and modifing do you think i would have to do?
The 1965 is basically the same platform as a 1964. So the same mods for doing a 64 will work on the 65. Cut back and reinforced spring towers, Left Front Apron for air tube clearance, fabricated metal brackets for Galaxie motor mounts, reworked radiator support for Galaxie radiator and air ducts, relocated apron supports, some clearance "rework" of the dash panel (firewall), trimming, reinforcing, and shaft reversal of Upper Control Arms for header tube clearance.
Incidently, the 1965 Fairlane HT built by DST, although a HR engine was initially installed, was modified to accept an SOHC engine. It used quarter elliptical springs similar to the A/FX Mustang.
If you want to install a wedge engine, I would imagine a Crites kit would also work in the 1965 Fairlane.
Regards,
Dennis
