Rear main mod.............

Someone posted a long time back about a mod to the rear main cap that would help in oil drain back. It would also help prevent the seal from leaking. Does anyone know of this and can maybe post some pics.
Thanks

Rear main mods

Craig

These pics illustrate rear main mods required on a Shelby block. This procedure is unique to the Shelby due to the fact that at least the early rear main caps lacked sufficient oil drain-back and would increase the internal pressure on the rear main to the point of leakage. Shelby drilled two rather small holes into the rear main cap for drain-back and they were simply inadequate. I have no experience with the Pond blocks but drain-back is NOT a problem on stock FoMoCo blocks and Genesis blocks (only the Shelby and may have been corrected by now).

We all know what opinions are like and I'm certain others will differ, but I've always done little more than debur the slot and opening in both Ford and Genesis blocks; never focused on trying to make it larger. One additional point though, you must make sure that the oil flow back into the pan remains unimpeded. Check the pan gasket and/or the windage tray and/or the oil pan lip do not close or partially close the drain-back. There is very little problem with factory parts but the after market parts can present problems.

Stock windage tray?

That's a stock CJ windage tray and yes I had to clearance both the windage tray and modify the back of the Milodon pan. Fairly common with the after market stuff. The windage tray probably needed more than usual work because of the way the drain-back is located in the Shelby rear main cap.
