HI, I'm new here. I love the wealth of knowledge here. I have a 63 1/2 galaxie, warmed up 390, tremec tko600, 3.8 gears with a detroit locker and moser axles and a custom trailing arm rear suspension with air bags. I also have a daily driver 63 country sedan, 4.6 DOHC running 99 heads, a sullivan intake, 670 cfm holley, tko500, 3.7 gears with a trac loc. Fast air fuel meter for tuning and i'm getting 22mpg on the highway. (14.3 AFR) also got a 67 s code mustang fastback, that runs a 351 c thats healthy. 4 speed with 4:11's, roush intake, yada yada. and a few other old fords. oh, and a 1956 cushman eagle. I have a small shop where i build cars for me and other people, but its part time. I machine /fabricate custom parts, and am putting a drive train from a 2005 magnum in a 72 challenger for a guy, complete electrical and dash install. Its the 5.7 hemi. I'm trying to attach pics, hope it works. Mike s.

You sound like a smart guy with plenty to contribute. I say that, based on the fact you figured out how to post pictures so quickly LOL!! Cool wagon too.

Sorry, i didn't mention that the engine in my first post is the 4.6 DOHC ford in wagon, not the dodge conversion.

Welcome to the nicest forum of grumpy ol' men and occasional young guy, on the internet. There is some good advice here about marriages, politics, trademark protection, eating manatee and Fords.

Very cool

December 17 2008, 11:54 PM

Even though it isn't an FE...
That DOHC wagon is very, very cool and that's great mileage for a carb'd one.
I don't see valve cover to control arm clearance specs listed in the shop manual but that looks a little tight!

control arm

December 18 2008, 4:31 AM

Yep, I had to cut a pie shaped chunk out of each side of the control arm to lower the top surface. I like the 4.6 but it just doesn't have the low end torque of my 390. I had people think it was a 427 SOHC and one guy think its a 509 crate engine. oh, just for fun i let them think it.

Great car...

December 18 2008, 8:13 AM

love the 4.6 in the 63. What is ignition set up that you used? You mentioned the FAST a/f meter but what else makes it run...Good to have you here with the rest of us Ford nuts, thanks for joining.

Coils on 4.6 DOHC (8 of em)

December 18 2008, 9:04 AM

HI, the ignition is a MSD 6 mod. it fires 8 individual coils. reads off the factory cam and crank sensors. real simple. I'm use to using distributors and this is so easy to tune, just plug in your home computor, ( i park the car next to the house window and run the cord through) then just move the graph around to the advance you want at what ever rpm. so easy. thought about diching the distributor on my 390 and doing the same ignition. also had vacuume advance / retard for blowers, tach output, rev limiter,

The 4.6 DOHC intake -n- stuff

December 18 2008, 4:52 PM

The intake will fit any dohc 4.6 as long as you use the better 99 up cobra tumble port heads. the intake is sold by sullivan in navada, they cost 600 bucks. he also sells one for the 5.4 DOHC. more cubes! but getting the carb under a staock hood is a challenge, but you need to lower the engine anyway to get the correct angle from the engine center line to the driveshaft and rear end. you can use a lincoln mark 8 engine, 94-99 or any mustang cobra 96 up i think, but the lincoln is a n aluminum block and the cobra is cast iron. the lincoln has centered metal conn rods, and are only good for 400 hp. the cobras are much better rods.
