I would start with a really nice 390 Block.
Get one of Barry's Stroker kit's.
A set of Ed's heads hogged out. Throw one of his water pumps to.
A BT MR intake with a set of Barry's new special carbs he is going to build.
A MSD ignition.
Some Big Headers.
Steel Fly Wheel
Bad Axx Clutch.
A Big in Big Out TL Wide Ratio.
A Shinny New Drive Shaft.
A 3.89 Rear Gear with a Locker. Throw some 31"s in there.
Better buy some good Brakes for each wheel.
Give her a lick of paint and some new carpet.
Put some Gas in her and have some fun.
Edit/ Oh Ya I forgot CAM THE F'in Hell out ouf it.
68 Mustang F/B
67 Fairlane GT

Been playing with this Z code, XL Boxtop for going on 2 years. Not a 100 pointer but is becoming a great driver. Have been able to talk to all but one of the previous 12 owners. The one I cant get to respond is the one who painted it and did some motor work in 1998-2001.
Last fall I decided to get the 427 built and into the 62. Once built I looked at the engine compartment and decided that "while I'm there" a clean engine wouldn't look right in a dirty engine compartment so I pulled the front end and cleaned and painted the engine bay. Well, since I had the front clip off I decided "while I'm there" to pull all the stainless fix the minor dents and put fresh paint on the car. Once I had the body prepped I couldn't get a perfect paint match so I pulled all the glass, doors, trunk lid, bumpers and stripped them. I edged the jams and repainted the whole car. I didn't put the front clip back on the car until I rebuilt the front end and replaced the front springs(while I was there lol). I upgraded the generator to an alternator, replaced the carpet inside, installed all new weatherstripping, installed a new windshield and now the car (not a Barrett Jackson piece)looks pretty darn nice.
The moral of the story, if you want a nice car don't ignore the "while I'm there" thoughts.
It's a 63 1/2 500 XL fastback, Z code auto w/console and buckets. All in one piece and actually drove into the trailer for $2,300 bucks w/spare seats and console.. Where is everybody getting interior, trim parts, etc? I ordered catalogs yesterday hoping most of the stuff I need is available. By the way Rick, what size tires are you running on your car? I really like the look when the fenderwell is full of rubber. PHIL
My best advice is to look at Dennis Carpenter reproductions, Greg Donahue and others for your parts as there seems to be a large disparity on pricing. I dealt with Dearborn Classics and pretty well was disguested when I was done dealing with them. You have to watch their shipping prices and parts prices as they tend to lean to their advantage. Customer service wasn't any better either.
http://www.classicautoparts.com/pdf/flierfullsize.pdf I found these people after my poor dealings with Dearborne and they have good parts at fair prices and their shipping is better.
Good luck with your resto, it's a lot of work but a lot of fun...
I can second the endorsement of Greg Donahue. Good parts and seemed like a nice enough guy (he answered the phone when I placed an order).
I also would pass on Dearborn Classics. I used to order quite a bit from them, but got sick of all the cheap Chinese parts (as well as the religious literature packed with every order).
Also check out Mac's Auto Parts, in Lockport NY. They sell everything Dearborn Classics does, but seem to be a bit cheaper...
Burgandy w/Rose Beige interior. Partially restored but has been disassembled for (gulp) 10 years now. I either need to finish it or sell it to someone who will....
