Hooker SuperComp vs Crites Headers for a 65 Galaxie

When I pulled the blownup 428 from my 65 Galaxie I discovered after 9 years & 10K miles the FPA Headers were starting to leak in the middle where the tubes meet the collector.

I want to replace them with a long tube design for the 445 and I've been going back and forth between the Crites (maybe MadDog) and the Hooker SuperComp's. The Hookers are one piece but they take up allot of room and look like their not very easy to install. The Crites look very easy to install and have 1/4" bigger primary tubes but the slip fit to the collectors concern me.

I know I give up ground clearance with the Crites but I have a Canton Deep Sump Pan hanging down there already so it will just have company.

I would appreciate input form folks running both setups and opinions from the group

Super comps

December 16 2008, 6:02 PM

I have super comps on my 65. The drivers side is two piece design on one tube. I also had to weld up one header primary tube where they put the divit to clear the flange bolt. The tubes seem a little thin to me. Also the collector flange does drag at times when the front suspension compresses, mostly in a corner with a bump in it. Between the headers and the deep trans pan, speed bumps are not an option. My car does sit fairly low though. They do match the ports very nicely on my unported edelbrock heads. I  think if the exhaust ports were opened up, you might have to do a little work to the headers as well. John
