Engine Masters Floodgate is Open

Looks like just about anything goes for 2009 as long as the engine has a cast intake, available aftermarket heads. Roller cams OK. Same gas as last year. Overhead cams OK too!

All this is unofficial - rumor has some things getting pulled back from the mix before the cement hardens in January.

No cubic inch limit - score still equalized by division - average hp/tq/ci.
LS, new Hemi, and mod motors OK
Overhead cam V8s OK
EFI OK with a single throttle body
Cast intake
No external mods to heads or intake
OEM bolt patterns
Two carbs OK
11.5:1 compression
Roller cams OK

Look for BIG engines with tunnel rams & two Dominators making over 1000
Look for LS engines with the same torque at low RPM as at peak
Look for at least one Ford with really big valve covers.....

Still, wonder what the crossover point could be for max CID versus hp/tq per CID? Some mighty big engines, indeed.

EFI,Roller Everthing, Turbo's/Blowers etc.. Of course trying to run a OHV in this world is like the proverbial Pea-Shooter to a Gun-Fight. Not good for our beloved FE...

define "cast" please. Most LS motors use plastic intakes Ithought?

Would they still be using the 2500-6500 rpm range?
That would toss out Comp Eliminator and Pro Stock motors.

There are some pretty interesting cast intakes out there, Mopar has one for the new style Hemi. This picture shows it adapted for EFI but it's a carb intake.

There's also the Sean Hyland 4V cast intake for 4.6 and 5.4 Fords

I'd guess the 'cast' intake is only shorthand and really meant no sheet metal intakes. The rules would likely spell this out in more detail soon. True, that many of the newer OHC engines have plastic throttle body intakes that due to thinwall casting techniques really can't be opened up. This may require a switch to thick-walled cast aluminum carb'ed intakes that seem to be cropping up for all kinds of modern engines, the GM LS7 series as well.

So, will a old school p-rod engine be able to prevail over a more modern 2 or 4 cam OHV engine? Stay tuned!
