When anAC system is openned, is ti necessary to replace the drier? This is something I have wondered about for years, yet never found a credible answer, based on practical use, facts.
I would assume that an old system, something found at a junkyard for example, which has been open to the atmosphere for 'who knows how long' would be a prime candidate for replacement. What about a system that is cracked open for a motor replacement or repair? Is there a reasonable limit to how long the hoses can be left diconnect before it becomes necessary to purge/drain the system and install a fresh charge/oil and replace compressor, dryer at the same time?
Reason I'm asking...I need to replace compressor (or possibly get away with just changing the clutch). I've been wavering for a few month, now that the cold weather has hit, I find that the heater defroster is not working too. Looks like I might as well combine both - and I'm going to go broke if I have to change everything!
