The only thing on the car other than the Ferguson Graves name was Jardine Headers and Crane cams decals. Also the engine in the car at the time was done by Fritz Voigt who had close association with Mickey Tompson as well as a well known west Coast racer in his own right. The suspension was prepped by Bill Stroppe at Holman Moody in Long Beach.
The car is Brian's and this is what I know about the car.
That picture is May 1968 with a 7 inch slick this car was the fastest of any 427 Fairlane out there at that time in AHRA it was the F1A/S and F1C/S national record holder in AHRA I have some copies of the records singed by (Pappy)CJHart at Lyons Dragstrip this car ran into the high 10.90s!!! at that time. If ya look in the back round there are guys standing back there this is a black & white picture withe car colored in and the letter of recognition National record in the back round. This car was faster than anything in NHRA, one of the hard running NHRA car was Don McCain's Desert Motors car of Mel Burns and them. My car sold at Mel Burns was campaigned by Owner Robert Ferguson Driven by Steve Graves. This car was 2-3 tenths faster than the NHRA McCain car. Its the real deal for sure and certain
My Dads 66 Cyclone ran 10.94 with a 370 inch FE.........

Back in the late 60's. So I would think that a factory backed 427 would be able to run a little faster. He is suposed to scan some old pics of it and send them to me. I will post them when he does. Scott
In 1967 Harold Dutton was the first to set the SS/B NHRA National Record in his Fairlane at 11.61. In April of 67 John Downing took the record from Dutton and ran an 11.42. John held the Record until September of 67 when Jere Stahl blasted the Record in Stiles Hemi Plymouth at 11.16. Jerry Harvey set the MPH record at 126.48 MPH in his Fairlane sedan at the same event that Stahl took the E.T Record. And as most know Ed Terry was the Super stock winner at the 1967 U.S. Nationals but was disqualified for unregistered factory parts on his Fairlane and Jenkins was awarded the win. The bottom line is, 427 Fairlanes owned the SS/B record in one fashion or another all throughout 1967 and 41 years later a 427 Fairlane holds that record once again!
I would kill if I could get a copy of the record after the 70 winter nationals.I won the class.I may be incorrect but it seems to me the record when I got there was 11.01 and about 126 or so.No I do not remember for sure but I ran 10.91 @ 129.+ .I would think the next national dragster would show the winners and if I broke the record it should also shoe that. How can we get a copy?I would love to see one.I am sure the Fairlane in this post was or still is very fast,it is just you would think we would have crossed paths somewhere.
Bobby
Hi Earl, Actually mine was a 66 and came with dual fours, but in early 67 we changed it to a single four ran a little slower MPH, but almost the same ET.

I was just a kid when Bob was running his 66 427 Fairlane, but yes Earl, that is Bobs car, at the "old" Mission raceway. The car in the other lane was later lettered up as "The SPY Machine" machine, & I have seen a few photo`s of that old Valiant dragging the rear bumper.

In recent years there have been any number of "Ugly Car" lists and contests. Usually AMC Gremlins, Pacers and any number of late Pontiac/GM designs are at the tTop of the list...The Aztec for one, But I had forgotten about the old Vailants. Maybe my mind did it on purpose, just in case I was trying to recall a memory or stepped in to a forbidden zone.
I must agree, those 62-63 Vailants have been cheat out of a rightful place at the Top of the Ugly list for way too many years.
