I don't have a clue.Besides where was the world nationals.Which sanction body are they talking about.Indy or where?I was in the Army and got out in March of 64.I got my car late in the fall that year from the young owner that couldn't drive it well enough to beat my old 57 E code if I still had it.I traded him my 62 3X2 T-Bird for it.I think I got the better of the trade,LOL.I don't see a asking price or bid for it.I would like to see what it goes for as I will try to unload mine next year after the March meet in Bakersfield.Depending on what a collector or buyer wants it for,I think mine is worth more,JMO of course.Just a little predigest.
Re: Wow,nice job of restoring it.World Nationals????

If you are interested in selling it, I can turn you on to the man who bought one of our 1962 lightweights, 1967 holman moody fairlane, A/fx funny car, and a few others.
so turn me on to him or him on to me.I hate to sell it again but I can not afford to play with it like I want to.It just sits around until I can afford to make a few passes and come home.

I wish I had the correct ones as the kid that I sold my car to in 66 traded for a full bench and I had to make some from summitts kits.Works fine just not OEM.
Good question Hawk, why is the interior not a semi gloss, his is way to glossy. On a bright day it would blind you so bad you couldn't see the tree count down.
A clock was standard in the Galaxie 500, deleted in the Ltwt Galaxie
December 10 2008, 10:10 AM
A clock were standard in the Galaxie 500, the clock was deleted in a Lightweight Galaxie, and a clock delete plate from a Custom model was utilized. I would expected the clock delete plate to be instrument panel color, red.

Dennis

The reason for a non-aluminum finish is that the Gal 500 had a clock as std. equipt. ...therefore there is no such thing as a correct finish block-off plate, the LWG used a plain plastic cover in dashboard color (red in this case)....AND...yes, those tubes are corect...ugly, but correct..... the correct air box has MUCH larger air openings, than the T-BOLT, to match these tubes....
Bud Schellenburg, Name may not be spelled correctly won Super Stock Eliminator at the 1965 Nationals at Indy with a 64 lightweight Galaxie. I was there.
Ok,I was there too.I know one LWG won AA/S but didn't stick around for the next day.I had him by two car lengths on a semi run and when I went for third gear it wouldn't go in,I panicked and stuffed it in fourth and almost held him off.My tuner was upset with me for missing a gear.I got upset with him and pulled the crappy weak T-10 out,and found the .05 cent snap ring that holds third gear on the output shaft lying on the bottom of the case.We went to tear down for the class winners and this guy ask me what happened and if I was having any over heating problems. We looked at his engine and noticed he had the Head gaskets on backwards.I just shook my head and told him.Why do you think one end says front?
Bud is a local Ford hero in the Baltimore area. He also raced the King Ford T-bolt and an altered wheelbase Ranchero in match race trim. He worked at Thompson Lincoln Mercury and Norris Ford for years. The '64 LW Galaxie he raced was sponsored by Marshall Ford City that was on Reisterstown Rd. in Baltimore MD.

Jody,I wasn't picking on him just was a very frustrating day at the races when you know you had the faster car. That's racing as you never know how it will end til it happens.I wasn't upset with him at all, just very disappointed in my bad luck, happened a lot back then.Like when three bent valves at the 65 world finals at Tulsa when a rear end broke during time trials. When before it broke I was the only car in all the classes running on or under their class record. They still did a very nice restoration, just wonder where they got the air tubes,my sound strange but I never saw any in person back then and the flex ones on my car were on it when I got it.
If I had that shiny one I would probably get it all scratched up at the drag strip. Seems to me if you are restoring a famous race car, wouldn't it be better to restore it to look like it did the day it won the big race? I don't get the idea of it looking like it just rolled off the line.

Bobby, I wasn't upset with you. I was just adding to the information about the car. Sorry if I came across that way! Who knows if it is Bud's old car or not?? They suspect it is but w/o a VIN or some other identifying factor who knows for sure?
And yes, drag racing can be very frustrating!!! If it was easy, everybody would do it......LOL
Jody,I wasn't upset at all, just too hard to remember that far back as at the time I didn't know any of the LWG owners except Mike Schmitt from Desert Motors from Ridge Crest.CA..Still with all the crazy breakages it was still the good old days.
Bobby
Bobby,I have talked to you before about 65 Nats and your LWG with Centerline wheels.I was there,my claim to fame is I made it thru 1 round in A/S stick with my '60 Fairlane 500(352/360HP)also I backed into Garlits tool box with my tow car.Still have pics of "Ohio George",Lawton,Ritchey,Dyno Don,Ronda, and Desert motor cars in action.Boy was Garlits pissed, scared the crap outta me as he was like GOD back then,he never found out who did it(just a dent,no real damage)talk about the good old days!
CAUGHT AGAIN !!!!Never could get away with anything!I swear I'm sorry Don.There was a good looking blonde walking thru my line of sight,,,,,,, pitiful excuse but that's my story and I"m sticking to it! Now that really was the good old days!
This 64 Ltwt in 1964 was assigned to Ford Division
December 10 2008, 10:32 AM
This Ltwt was assigned to Ford Division - Washington (DC) District Sales Office and was part of the Ford Car Caravan that went to various car shows and events.
This car was on display at Floyd Garrett's Museum in TN until his collection was sold a few years back.
steve you're wrong the air intake tubes on the car are CORRECT....dennis can tell you the in's and out's of them. larry davis lightweight has the same air tubes on it. i asked dennis and larry about them and they explained the reason to me....larry and dennis are the experts on lightweights and thunderbolts...they also have the paperwork to back up they're comments...not trying to be a smartass but they know what they arte talking about........gopher'
don't get me wrong i think most of the lwg had the flex tubes. but the first and only set of hard ones i had ever seen was on larry davis lwg from alabama. this car has the second set i have ever seen. if i remember correctly the very first few cars had these. i know when i asked about larry's dennis said they hunted foreever to find his. like i said these are the only 2 cars that i have ever seen them on,but they are correct... if dennis reads this i'm sure he can explain the application much better.......gopher
Bob and Mark Buchannan's 64 Ltwt and if I recall the 64 Ltwt of Gary Newton, all had the molded fiberglass ducts in place of the round Wiremold tubing. There are probably other cars too.
Either duct is correct and they both show up in various 1964 Ford Ltwt Galaxie DSO parts lists, although it is my understanding most (if not all) of the cars were originally delivered with the Wiremold tube, part # 64G-WMAT.
There was a vendor problem with the fiberglass duct that it wouldn't fit to the airbox.
Any chance you could copy photos of the 1965 Galaxies there?

Lars;
The only pictures I have left are the ones I mentioned in the above post.If I can figure out how to post pics I will surely do so.They are in fairly decent shape so we'll see. They are a frozen moment in time from a long time ago that's for sure.I will alert you when I figure it out and post in the photo section.
at the Dealer. When I got my car it had the wire ones. When I got it back I got the air box from Dearborn Classics. The circumference of the air box is almost 1/2" more than the boxes in the radiator support. Finally had to buy 25' of 8" wire tubing and it is much stiffer than what was on it the first time I had it.Bending the wire was a real project.I now have about 10' left that I don't need at all,for now anyway.
