How do the weber carbs perform? I think that they look great but how is the performance. I thought that I remembered someone saying that 4 48 carbs were not enough. I am considering them for a 427, 11 to 1, comp 292s, in a street car.

They perform well when properly tunned, are difficult to tune because there are 4 that have to be balanced to eadh other and altitude change affects them, RWJ

I have used....

DCOE side draft carbs on several different occasions. I find them to work very well if tuned properly. Check with Performance Parts Warehouse in New York (check Google). In the past, some suppliers were willing to send out 'close' carbs by using a questionnaire about engine characteristics and vehicle use. Please understand that EFI has left ANY carburetor package far behind. I, personally, don't expect to ever use a carb again. If I were going to build a NA engine, I'd look into using the conversion units that replace the carb with an injection throttle body.

I have a set of IDAs running on my GT500..

and 2 years later I am still impressed. Good idle, great midrange and a never had before top end...

The nice thing about webers is hat you can adjust the ventury size.

The standard 37mm maybe ok for a 289/302 but is too small for a 420+ FE.

My 428 is pretty mild, but 40mm venturis made a huge difference.

Other guys running stroked sideoilers are up to 42mm venturis and running really well.

I for myself will never go back to my trusty ol 850 double pumper.

Donīt let them carbs intimidate you, do a little reading, get a wideband O2 gauge and start tuning.

Ahhh, yes the looks are nice too wink.gif
