looks

December 8 2008, 6:04 PM

like it has double peaks and moves up and down here and there through the rpm range. Something strange going on there, lost 40 HP from 6800 to 7000 and then gained 80 HP from 7100-7200??? 80 hp in 100 rpm?

It is an awesome engine and for one bad ass car, once sorted out I would think it should go into the 7's.

Very impressive

December 8 2008, 7:08 PM

Nice numbers, and maybe could have been higher if you'd twisted it tighter; doesn't look like its really ready to fall off yet. Also seems to be pretty rich up at the top end. More power to be had there, for sure...

What is the deal with the big drop in power around 7000? Was the engine missing or something?

What cams are you running in that engine?

Re: Very impressive

yes , it looks like if you would have twisted it up to 7700 rpm you would have cracked 900 horsepower

Dyno

December 9 2008, 4:27 AM

I used this dyno because of the supposed data availabe with it. Sometimes the A/F would work or some other data, then part way thru a pull it would stop reading for no reason. Sometimes the A/F would be 13.3, then 11.9. At least an hour each day was spent fiddling with wires and connections or working on someone else's project while I waited. After I finished the dyno operator said his dyno was 30 HP short compared to eveyone else in the area so I'm not sure how much the the motor could actually make. I did take it to 8000 one time to see if it would break and it didn't have any problems, RWJ

Good average hp and torque even with

December 9 2008, 11:09 AM

the drop @ 7000 it could electical or fuel for the reason for the drop, I think fixing the prolems will get you 900 plus on a good dyno and a better average for sure, good job.

4.375 x 4.375, Dove heads ported, custom grind cams, 750 lift 334 duration, 306 @ .050, splits with tunnel ram, MSD crank trigger, Ford reworked dizzy by Joe Panek, 14:1 comp. Original Ford non adjustable rockers, never gave me any trouble. No trouble with the ignition, has the steadiest timing I've ever had. Dyno operator said he's seen a double peak HP many times???

Vacumn was 12 1/2 to 15. Jay's vacumn leaks are probably at his dizzy, ask me how I know this. I do have a couple of other pulls a few HP over 890, but none in 900.

I might pull the motor down next year to freshen it and redyno it at a different facility, RWJ

Thanks for the info

You may be correct about the vacuum leaks at the distributor; it would be a logical place to look.

If you decide to dyno it again, I know one dyno where you could really wring it out wink.gif. Kind of a long drive, but if you're up for it you'd be welcome here. Pick up Barillaro on the way and we'll make it a party...

Engine leaks

December 10 2008, 5:12 AM

Jay, buy a leak tamer that uses the smoke, one of the best tools I ever bought. I created so much vacum at one point I sucked the rear intake gasket into the engine, RWJ
