OT..Paypal question?

I sold some parts on ebay about 10 days ago. I sent an invoice but have not heard anything from the buyer. Yesterday when I looked at the auction there was a note saying "Payment was initiated on Nov-28-08 and is being processed through PayPal". I have never seen this before. Thkere is a place where it says "claim your payment" but when I click that it wants to register me for paypal, which I already have. I checked my paypal account and nothing is mentioned there. Has anyone ever seen this?
TIA, Tbolt

Pay PAL

December 2 2008, 7:37 AM

They may have paid with an E check or something close to that. Pay Pal will notify you once the funds are deposited into your account. We see this quite a lot here at the store. Do not ship till they tell you that the funs have been deposited into your account!

Off topic from this. I take you have a T Bolt. I am looking for rear suspension upgrades. Could you PM me with what you have done to the back half of youd car.

Thanks John

WARNING DANGER DANGER w/ PAY PAL

December 2 2008, 7:36 AM

When you get eMail notices on anything PayPal or even eBay never use the eMail enclosed links, instead go directly to PayPal.com and eBay.com and sign in directly. I'm not sure exactly of your situation but anytime things don't match up or seem funny between eBay/Paypal and eMails there's always a chance of fraud.

I kind of recall that PayPal screws around by accepting questionable payments from buyers that if they somehow bounce the seller can get wacked with...Of course PigPal in their wisdom is out nothing for accepting bum-payments since the payment they accepted is your money (less their commission of course). If payment turns out bum your the one that loses not PayPal.

Paypal

If it doesn't show up in your Paypal account page, then it isn't from Paypal. Usually, if it is a buyer with an unregistered address, you will have to choose to "accept" or "deny" the payment. Also, when a buyer pays through Paypal and uses a credit card instead of a bank account to provide additional funds, there is a delay in receiving the money, which is what your email sounds like, but there should be something on your account page to indicate this.

Go to the ebay auction, sign in, and click "order details". That will tell you the status of the payment. Also, in the original ebay email with the "send an invoice" button, if the auction has already been paid, or the seller indicates that the payment has been sent, then you will not be able to send another invoice. When you click the button, it will go to the "order details" page, indicating that it has been paid through Paypal.

I figure that you already know all of this, but maybe someone else reading this doesn't have your experience with ebay.

I just had this...

December 2 2008, 11:37 AM

you should have received notice via email that you were paid by echeck. Paypal holds the transaction until it clears. This took about 3-4 days. Double check your personal and ebay email to verify this. If it is an echeck payment then you get an email saying when its cleared and the icon in your My eBay selling area for the auction will go from an hour glass to a dollar sign. No big deal.

Yup, it is legit and your buyer screwed up (guys reread Tbolt's post)

December 2 2008, 2:07 PM

Tbolt did not get an email telling him he got paid. It is the actual closed auction page showing this message. That is normal. What is not normal is the fact that it shows the buyer paid and Tbolt did not get an email and his paypal account does not show it as paid and when he clicks on the "claim your payment" it tells him to register for an account. This is due to the fact that the buyer did not make a payment to the correct account. There are two things that cause this, the buyer making a manual payment and entering the wrong address (BTW, this is a new scam, the auction can show a payment made but if they pay to another account you don't get the money!)or the wrong email address in the pay to line of the auction. Both are common and are a headache. Tbolt, make sure that the address for payments to go to is typed correctly and if it is then your buyer did this on his own but either way you need to email him and have him cancel the unclaimed payment and pay to the correct email address. Hawk is correct....

What he describes is exactly how it is. I will email the buyer and try to get it straightened out. Of course I put in auction continental U. S. only and the buyer is from P.R. but I checked and PR is considered US by the postal service.
