On the classified page BB made a comment about the S codes all having wide ratio box's.
Yet my books and David Kee's site show both close and wide for S codes of the 67 year.
How was it determined what ratio was installed in a given S code car?
Most of the s code's came with wide ratio but some came with the close ratio. I had a 1996 fairlane GT that had the wide ratio. What was funny at the time most everone thought the close ratio was better. I installed a 4.11 and with the wide ratio first gear (not sure if it was 2.74 or 2.78 but anyways it was a bear out of the hole although it suffered a little on the top speed the et's were great at the time.
Basically it depends on the cars rear axle ratio. I don`t know for sure about the 390`s, but on the 70 Mustangs with 351C`s, if you had 3.25 or taller gearing you got the 2.78 low gear wide radio, if you had 3.50 or lower, you were stuck with a 2.32 close ratio.
