On this evenings session of Pinks at Infineon, there was an early T Bird FE powered car. Does anyone know who owns car and any particulars about it? IE: How quick, etc.. Thanks.

Trying to remember his name, Dave Cook?, Jr., was it red w/ tube frame? Had a TP in it, clean car, I was there at Sears the afternoon he got his chassis certified, along with my friends' '56- his dad's car was the fun one, he had a late 70's Corvette with a 428CJ with 2x4 in it, also bright red, ran 10.80's- the kids used to ask him why it was so much louder than the other Corvettes, so he'd open the hood- priceless hehehe

Cooks T bird

November 29 2008, 8:51 AM

I met David Cook Jr. about 10 years ago at the Winternationals in Pomona, where he was racing a red Tbird in Super Gas. If the car I saw last night on Pinks All Out is the same car, they appear to have cleaned it up nicely with new paint, it didn`t have flames at Pomona, and to be honest, I thought it had a 460 style engine in it. As for the Dads "REAL" 427 Corvette, he had it up at the Seattle National event a few years back, running in Super Street. I never would have known except a couple of my buddy`s who race Chevys in S/ST came up and told me, "you will never guess what engine some guy put in a Covette!" , they were quite shocked (and annoyed!) I loved it! One of Cook Jr`s buddys also runs Ford powered cars in S/ST & S/G, albeit 460 based. One of the coolest is a silver Mercedes Benz roadster, and this guys Dad, Davey Adams races a Maverick, which was also shown making a pass at Infinion on Pinks.

Yep, that's the guys. Pretty sure Jr's Bird had a TP in it when he first put it together, the chassis was together with the body on, pretty complete up to the inside sheet metal/ wiring stage when it was going through chassis cert- wouldn't be surprised to see it with a big 460 these days, too easy to build a big engine that way- have a 514 in my Falcon. My friend's '56 that went through cert that same day has a big 460/ Powerglide combo (used to be an old-school straight axle/ 406 powered car)in a tube frame, just heard that he recently smacked the top-end guardrail at Sacramento and boggered it up pretty good.
The CJ Corvette was great, really spun up the Chebbie guys because it did great burnouts and was loud as hell, curiousity killed the Chebbie fans when they'd ask what was in it LOL

Loud FEs

November 29 2008, 11:57 AM

Thanks for info. on car. FEs are certainly loud. Ours with 30 inch 4inch glass packs sound like world war three. Maybe that's where the extra H.P. is going.
