More on stroker kits

I subscribe to "Race Pages" magazine and a company called "Coast High Performance" (CHP) has FE strokers kits in the range on $1300 http://www.coasthigh.com/category-s/14027.htm what makes these so much cheaper? I see the pistons are of another variety and they use Scat cranks? I'm just curious as I could not help but notice the attractive prices.

You sure they are Scat?

CHP and Probe are sister companies if I remember right. I think the CHP kits have Probe pistons, Probe cranks, and Probe rods.

Balancing and rods

November 28 2008, 5:18 AM

I think that most of the higher priced kits have H beam rods and balancing is

included. It's a $250 add on from CHP.

I don't understand why FE kits are as high as they are anyway compared to 460

kits. Custom pistons are just custom priced, the rings and bearings the same, the

chevy rods are the same 6.7 rod.

That just leaves the crank itself and there is less metal in a fe crank than a

460 crank. 460 kits can be found from the mid $700 range on up, these CHP kits

are almost double and are considered cheap.

I would think a price adjustment might help sales volume. JMO, Aaron

Lock & load

OK.
I normally try like all heck to avoid putting "sales" type commentary in the technical part of the forum. It just seems to be in poor taste, and I try to respect everybody's time and opinion.

The Probe/CHP kits are at $1650 when you include the balancing. We've been running them at $1695 as a forum special from time to time. Not too far off at all. The fact that they are moving to Scat for cranks and rods should tell you something about the quality of the low cost RPM/private label stuff that you see on ebay all the time. Probe is/was RPM's largest customer.

I also include race bearings. They have not built any of them yet, so they do not know that the passenger car rod bearings will not provide enough side clearance as they bind on the rod journal radius. I also use the F-M 3/4 race groove main set because I like it and run it.

I will again post a "deal" in the classifieds for those who are chasing a good price.
