O/T: New GT500KR - w/ Not to be driven on public roads or highways

Looked at a wild flat black on black new GT500KR yesterday at a local Ford Dealer. There was a photo of part of a GT500 stuck on outside of the passenger window so it covered about a 4"x5" section in the center of the manufacturers sticker. I peeked under the Scotch taped on picture and found printed on the invoice itself an EPA NOTICE Not to be driven on public roads or highways and some gobledegook about not meeting EPA Emission Testing.

Strange they'd allow a new car to get into dealers hands like that................Could get hairy if the EPA Police show up to some proud owners door and sieze his new ride

so what's the story?

November 27 2008, 8:04 PM

Did the car fail testing after being shipped out or did the rules change retroactively?

I've seen a dealers ad for one in a Seattle newspaper and one on the road at Vegas.

I ripped the ad out of the Oct 31st paper at the airport. I see they were asking $95,900. It says "Hurry only 1".

That makes you wonder how they could even liscense them if that is the case. One of my customers just bought one so i will have to ask him he has any paper work that came with it that says this.

I actually just bought one!

As John said they were not to be sold until after the KR conversion was done at Shelby Auto. I also have a twin to the KR I just bought a Red/Silver combo.

Ford builds the car and then its shipped to Shelby Auto to have the KR conversion done. So what that says is its not to be sold or driven until the conversion is completed.

Because the conversion will have its own stripes they are sent stripe delete, floor mat delete etc.

They are rated at 540hp but we all know they make nearly that at the wheels!

Muscle Mustangs & Fast fords tested one to the tune of 11.92 @ 120mph bone stock.

see this article

http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/features/mmfp_0809_2008_shelby_mustang_gt500kr/quarter_mile_results.html

11.50's on a stickier tire.

They come stock with a 3:73 vs the 3:31 in my other Shelby

They come with different tires and wheels, brakes, suspension, different engine calibration, Ford Racing Air intake, different shocks, a 7000.00 Carbon Fiber hood, bit lower, carbon fiber front air dam, mirror covers etc. They are approx 200lbs lighter than the stock gt500 as the shipping weight on my KR is 3785 vs 3970 on my gt500. And the EXHAUST..... WOW does it sound awesome. Maybe some sound video too.

Will post a few pics and more info in a day or so. r

just to add they did a dyno test and found:

511.17 HP & 464.56 lb ft tq @ the WHEELS !

My stock normal GT500 made 440hp & 440lb tq

So for sure its making more than 540 at the flywheel

another tidbit it comes with a brake cooling duct kit in the trunk!
For one reason or another they were not allowed to have it factory installed but who says it cannot be left in trunk for off road purpose only... r

with the new Ford racing blower and a tune these cars will make 700hp at the wheels

The SEMA show had a few KR's and also the Shelby Super Snakes which seemed to be an exercise in adding lots of Shelby identification to every part of the car from battery hold down to washer reservoir.

There were a bunch of the new and even-uglier-in-person '10 Camaros and the new ZR1 Vette with carbon brakes amd a window in the hood. But all paled in numbers to the onslaught of Challengers, they must have built a million since it seemed like that many were there.
