Jim,it probably was on the 65 Galaxies as if I remember correctly, they were the only ones that year with a 427.Mike Schmitt won the 65 Winter Nationals AA/S class with one.He won on a solo due to me losing a FL1-A oil filter on my semi run and was not able to get back in line to race him for the trophy.I watched him as I was almost back on the return road,N.H.R.A. said they thought I blew my engine due to all the smoke getting on my headers. His best run if I remember was about 13.00 or maybe just in the 12's and I was running almost in the 11's that day.Sad but that is racing as we all say.

Thanks for the info on the intake, you won so many races a great driver and engine builder something so small as a filter keeping you from the final like you say that's racing. You ran so many FE 427 race cars lots history wish we could turn back time and see it all over again
Yeah Jim I could change a lot of decisions and won a few National events from breaking minor parts that didn't seem important at the time.I ran the FL1-A for about three more years until one ballooned warming up my Fairlane on the trailer at Sears Point one AM.Ed Terry had his 68 CJ and came over to see what happened. When I showed him the filter he just shook his head and said why wasn't I running the red one. What red one I asked. He got one out of his trailer and gave it to me.The FL1-HP,wow.Live and learn.Later Fram jumped on board and gave me a case of their racing filters.I have used them ever sense and it is on my LWG now.
Not knowing any better and just speculating it would seem a 65 Gal might be a good competetor in FAST competion.
One of those white sale 2 door sedans with a 427 might be very competive. Problem areas may be trans availability and tires. Those long cast headers are worth a lot of horsepower, and the 65's were relatively light.
You can run a 65 Galaxie in FAST .You could run a C4 .Tire you could run a G70=15 redline. You can do a lot to lighten a car and porting is allowed. The G-70-15s work quite well on my 67 FAST Fairlane with a best 1.60 60 ft time with consistant 1.60s on a good track.Check the rules at FASTRACES.ORG

check the height of the port,? early 65 was still LR design, I have an early MR, built march 65, no number on intake...I will send you that parts list shortly..John V
the M/R engine came out mid 65, the M/R intake that I owned had no casting #s, I understood that mid 65 and 66 intakes all had no casting #. The casting # apeared in 67. post a picture, its easy to tell, Id be surprised if it is not a low riser intake.
