I am looking into possibly purchasing a newer Ford Fusion and would like to hear from any who have real world info about this car. Any questionable areas? parts failures? TSB's and so on. If you own one what do you think?
One option is the all wheel drive version (minnesota driving) so any info here would be great too. This car will be for my wife so putting up with little things is out of the question. Being quiet to drive is something she is searching for also. We will most likely be purchasing used with less than 20K miles. Her current car (for the last 8 years) is a 1998 Honda Civic LX 4dr. It has been a real good car and well maintained so this is her current measuring stick. Thanks for the help and have a great Thanksgiving.
I can't figure out why they didn't convert the Kansas City plant

They had been making Contours in KC and Sonora. I had two that had been built in KC. It would have seemed natural for them to tool the KC plant for the Fusion as they are about the same scale size. The 4 cyl engines are just Mazda like the Focus. What do they build in KC?

These SUVs are based on the Contour platform so scale

and infrastructure is already there. It seems like making Fusions there would be no bigger deal than what they did to convert the Sonora plant. I don't think that was a major re-tooling.
I work as a tech at a Ford/Mercury dealer and I think they are a great car.As soon as business picks up a little I'm getting one for the wife. Don't hesitate to get the 4 cylinder. Go to your local Ford dealer and drive one,you will agree. This is the type vehicle Ford needs to get back on track....
I own an 07 Fusion. 3.0 V6 with the six speed auto trans. I have driven it from Maine to Southwest Florida several times and just love it. Averaged 28 mpg on those trips. 25k on the car with no problems. My only comment really is the seats have no lumbar support feature.
We have a 07 SEL v6 , 6 spd at, very quiet, good mileage and performance, no issues. Rated higher than a camrey. All-wheel drive will cost you 2mile per gallon.
aka... Milan. 4 cyl, auto 28 mpg on 10% ethanol laden gas... nice ride, factory Continental tires are useless in snow. No issues, but at 31k, RR wheel bearing is singing, I think due to an alignemt issue since new... It is a lease, so it will go back in 8K miles...
If you can hold off I would wait for the 2010 Fusion. It's a better looking car and you'll be able to get a Hybrid version of it. There is also a new model for next year that I think is really sweet. (Not sure if it is released yet or not.) Turning radius is also a lot better on the 2010. That' alway's been my biggest complaint with this family of cars. (Fusion, Milan, MKZ) Turning radius bites for car of it's size.
