Re: Are these heads actually what the seller claims?

Maybe. As I remember the index at the time was 10.22. They bombed the index and set a new record at 9.71 right before they sold the car. They used used 'special parts' that only a few factory guys had access to. I have some pictures of the Heads in use on their engine if I can find them, from way back when I was hanging with Cloutier, Nevin and Steel's CJ record holder.
If these are them, they would be well worth the price IF they are useable.

Very interesting, this seller is only about 1/2 hour away from me, and I have no idea who he is. According to his feedback, he has sold a fair bit of FE performance stuff in the recent past. Tomp, any ideas?

He put his phone number in the ad. Drop by and have a look at his stuff. Just might find some cool stuff, or at least meet somebody local with similar interests.
I recall, Van cleve's never ran any quicker than 9.89, they sold the car right after they set this record. If these heads are what I think they are!!! there not that special!!!
I agree Stephen, I believe that it was 1980, when Van Cleves Fairlane became the first SS/D car to run in the 9`s, and then they sold the car to Gerek. I wasn`t even sure that it had gone into the 9.8`s. I sent Jim Jr. an Email late last night about these heads, hopefully he will reply, although depending on when these heads were supposedly run, he may have been too young to remember.

That could be. I'm going off of a photographic memory that hasn't seen the Nat'l Dragster page for 30 or so years. I'm pretty sure the index at the time for D was 10.22, and they set the record at 9.71, then sold the car. It's not necessarily the heasds that were special by themselves. It was also some of the peripherals that worked with them.
Since you have the car, that should speak volumes. I don't know what you got when you purchased it, and that parts up to you.
It was 1980. It was 9.89 @ 135.54 for Van Cleve. Ray had SS/C at that same time at 9.87 @ 134.90. I remembered both for some goofy reason. I don't think Van Cleve ever went quicker than that before Pat Gerek bought the car........Pat still hasn't been that fast with it.
