I'm looking at 2 vintage Ford literature pieces here:
1. Aug 1966 "1967 Engine Specifications" for Lincoln-Mercury. It lists 1965 Merc with 427-8v only (no 4v), no Merc 427 at all in 1966, and for 1967, both 427-4v and 427-8v but Comet only, none in the big Merc. Is this right?
2. Shop Tips Vol 5 #2, Oct 1966
Covers 1961-1967 engine ID.
This shows 427-8v only (no 4v) for 1965 all Ford. The 427-4v returns to Ford in 1966-67 as the "W" code.
Is is true then, there was no 427-4v in 1965??
The '66 W code full size Fords are very rare, but a few do exist. Never seen or heard of a '66 Mercury with a 427 of any model.

Strange too, wasnt there a single four rule in NASCAR in 65? I have a 12-64 MR 1x4 intake, and Ive seen others like it. What application, NASCAR, Cobra?
I have seen 1 1967 full size Mercury with a 427 single four barrel and a four speed. It was owned by a Ford mechanic that bought it from the first owner in the late 70's. You remember, gas was nearly a dollar a gallon and people dumped these cars like they were poison. The guy traded it on a shit box of some kind. Probably a Fairmont or Pinto. In addition to being the only 427 full size Mercury I have ever seen, it had a 160 mph speedo in it. If it was recent, I would think someone had "restored" it to this condition, but it was original. This was in Greeley Colorado. I haven't seen him or the car in about 20 years, but if he is still around there, he will still have the car. Somebody in our Galaxie club had a 427 2x4v about 10 years ago. It was as pulled from the weeds so it was probably original too.
anything else to indicate that full size Mercurys were available with a 427 after 1965. That doesn't mean there weren't any built, but I have no evidence that they were.
Kirk,
The Mercury that is listed on the web site as having last been seen in northern Illinois, is most likely Animal Jim Feuher's car. Jim now lives in Lacon Illinois. He has/had a website dedicated to his racing and restoration business, that has pictures of his early 427 Mercurys. He had one of the Breezeway cars with a 427. He now has a Breezeway, that is I believe a 390. He also has a 64 Galaxie 427 2x4. Jim has many, parts, pictures, and much knowledge of these cars. You may be interested in his website.
