Maybe a dumb question

Why do you want the hot air ports blocked off? I ask because I have seen the gaskets come both ways. And now your looking for them. BTW it was a felpro not sure the number but it was a soft gasket...no metal reinforcement. Thanks John

Dr Mabuse heat cross over

Is that a common problem? That looks pretty bad. And how do you know you have a hole eaten in your al intake?

common problem...

November 21 2008, 1:17 PM

...especially with an engine run in severe service, ie. cold weather driving with short trips. My experience with the pictured PI intake, and a Ford 3-2V intake is it will eat out the Al, eventually.

With the 3-2V, it burned a hole below the outside vertical wall below the center carb, and it was an obvious exhaust leak. The PI intake had compression in the crankcase pushing out the dip-stick, and an audible exhaust leak, louder when removing the breather/fill cap in the rocker cover.

Napa crossed those numbers

November 19 2008, 11:44 PM

to felpro's when I ask about availability today. The pic's on the screen

looked like the Victors pictured above. They would have to special order them

and would have 7 or 8 bucks shipping on top of the $33 for the pair. I told them

to wait. What's the word on these gaskets from felpro? What's a fair price?

Thanks, Aaron

I have the info although I will have to do a little digging. I don't have the time this morning but will get back to you later. I purchased them through a speed shop (Hawaii Racing in Simi Valley, CA phone# 805-583-8880)which recomended them to use with the aluminum intake. I screwed up the install and had the cork gaskets shift which leaked oil so when I re did the install I just used the metal reinforced gasket I had in the kit. But I noticed the hot air vent was open on the that set. The 1st set was definetly closed. What difference does that make? I'm guessing the hotter the better and quicker the carb atomizes the fuel mix, but sacrifices hp after the engine gets up to temp. I have read where the softer gasket tends to shift or stretch and may fail. I'll post the part number later today. Hope this helps. John
