Looking at whats left of 08 f250s just wanted some idea the mpg of a supercab 4x4 and a crew-4x4 My 98 150 pulls car trailer with no prob but might add Fifth-wheel, with 1120 pin weight,, 7900 total-dry weight.. Even thought of 09 150... You guys have been great in the past with off thoughts & probs where else can I go.. 37yrs. with Ford & out. THANKS!!!!
A 7900 pound fifth wheel is pretty light, and with the new ratings the 150 MAY be enough. It depends on the options and all of the gear you carry. Remember that the ratings are set with a base model truck and all options subtract from that. You can get a slider hitch that makes room for the fiver even in the short bed, but you can't get a fifth wheel with a big overhang.
2006+ F250s have PLENTY of weight capacity for decent size fifth wheels. They have about the same rating as my 2004 F350. Even with a well optioned 250 you should be able to tow a 12-13k fifth wheel and still be within the ratings.
ON EDIT: I noticed that you're talking about dry weight. Figure you will carry a couple thousand pounds of clothes, food, pots, pans and dinnerware. More if your wife wants it to be like home. When I look at trailers I look at the GVWR of the trailer, and figure I will probably max it out. Figure 15% to 20% for the pin weight on a fifth wheel. Again, the new Fords have pretty good capacities, but it's worth checking the numbers out to make sure you're not overloaded later.

I'd go with the HD/payoad "09" 150 or an 08-250 just wonder how bad the mpg gets with the 250s all with 5.4 motor.. I really wish the 09 150 with MAX_TOW pkg would be enough..
Re: A bit OT but no one at Ford dealer would help (f250)

another thing to look at is B R A K E S the 09 F150 may be ok with that weight but not safe at freeway speeds with the other 150's or any light duty truck for that matter.
Mileage on the new SD's expect 18 tops not pulling and in single digits pulling
Wait for the new eco-boost twin turbo f150 if the brakes are adequate.
I actually prefer the 7.3L as great power/torque and also great mileage
there is a very nice local truck here for 21k with only 40k miles on it
Dont evan think of 150...REALLY should use Dual rear wheel, for the stability factor not to mention weight and safety....you wont be sorry, and more money spent going in relates to more money on resale !!!note: I just stepped up to an F450 over the 350s we been using...INCREDIBLE difference!!!!dually with twin turbo....Call Jacky Jones Ford, Cleavland, Ga...best $$$ and selection
