........the most common be the 7-Litre or just 7-Litre only? I doubt many were 427s, guessing less then the number of 427 Fairlanes built. The reason for asking is the casting numbers on my BI/BO TL shows (from Dave Kee's site) it's used in the 66/67 427/428 Galaxies, Thanks, Rod. BTW, no tag.

4 SPEEDS

November 16 2008, 5:15 PM

Rod cant answer your question on #s but I had a 66 LTD 4 dr HT 428-4 spd. Still have the org window sticker. Automatics were xtra. the sticker shows N/C for the 4 speed. That car ended up with a 50 Merc body on that chassis. Now I have the exact same car but a factory 390 4 speed. Never thought Ide see another. Its getting a 428 transplant. FEDER

I still have mine

Bought my first new car Jan '67. Galaxie 2dr w/428 4 speed. Adrian Clements has a wealth of info about those cars. Not sure of total # built. Modified that T-Bird 428 w/ CJ parts until it ran 12.88 @ 118 mph @ 4340 Lbs. Now it's "resting" until I can get it restored.

Engines are like garages, never big enough! Check out my distributor restoration site! http://428cobrajetcars.homestead.com

~20% of 1966 7 Litres had 4 spds

November 16 2008, 7:50 PM

according to: http://7litre.awardspace.com/1966production.html

similar numbers for 1967: http://7litre.awardspace.com/1967production.html

there is the caveat that pre-1967 productions numbers are just estimates, etc.

For "regular" galaxies, my guess would be the number w/ 4 speeds is < 20%, probably <br> a lot less.

There were 231 full size Fords built with the 427 in 1966

The records did exist, at least when Doug Siperly wrote to Ford exec S Rosenfeld. Mr Rosenfeld wrote the figures on the bottom of the letter shown here:

1912 Model T Ford touring Salmon (ugh!)
1913 Model T Ford Touring original Black paint
1915 Model T Ford Roadster Black
1915 Model T Ford touring Black of course!
1967 Cougar GT 390 Cardinal Red / Black
1968 Cougar GTE 427 Augusta Green / Saddle

Does Ford still do that?

November 17 2008, 9:59 AM

In the 80's before computers took over I wrote to Ford a few times requesting figures and always got back great responses like the one above although often they could only break it down by body code and not engine option.

Thanks for scanning in that nice letter!

I've added the 231 into my notes on how many "hipo" Fords were built and what years, etc. Lots of holes and sketchy data, this fills one of them.
Anything similar on 1967? Or in the big Mercs?

That's not Correct

While it's great to have the letter, it's not the final word on how

many R Codes were built in 1966. There are no numbers listed

for a 1966 2-Dr. Custom R Code.

AND they did make a few.
