I think it has to do with motor set back in a modified frame. In a stock pos the motor mount is set over or close to spindle & crossmember to avoid chas twisting. Dont know the rules Gord

I don't think it has very much to do with wt/HP as a requirement but more with class specific rules wether or not motor plates are allowed.

I'm pretty sure most anything goes in that area for NSS or AFX?

Probably help stiffen the chassis/frame

some, but unless you need to remove or modify the original mounts for header clearance, I personally wouldn't go to the trouble. Are you planning on hopping up that car soon??

It all depends....

motor plates are used for a few different reasons. They can be used to relocate an engine to a better position for improved weight transfer. They make it easier for big tube custom headers to be used since there are no motor mounts. They allow an engine to be installed in a chassis that normally wouldn't accept it. They also tie the engine to the chassis better in high horsepower situation. There is no magic formula that says when you should use a motor plate but I would use one if your car runs 9's or better and I wouldn't run one in a street car unless it runs 9's or better. Hope that helps to answer your question.
