Just a quick question but were the '68 GT-500, non KR "S" code cars?

Thanks Jay

The reason I ask is a friend of mine has one in for service and the car is modified to a significant degree. I have the whole V.I.N. but I don't want to post it publically.
It's an early (Low 40,000, last 5 numbers in V.I.N.) Metuchen built car with an aftermarker 5 speed. I'm going to look at the car later today or tomorrow.
I'll check some of the more obvious stuff when it's up on the hoist.

should be Q

November 10 2008, 12:19 PM

They would have come with the 428 PI in them but I think they were Q code and not P.

There were supposed to be some not turned into Shelbys that went out as regular Mustangs with a 428 PI when Shelbys all changed to KR's. Any documentation on that?

"S means 428-4V in a 1968 shelby GT500 (not -KR)

68 GT500s were Stamped S code but not 67s.

It is indeed an "S" code

November 10 2008, 3:44 PM

I went and looked at it today. It's totally non-original. Aluminum rad, E'bok intake late model carb, 5 speed, 4 wheel disc. Eleanor wheels. It a Shelby but as far from stock as I've ever seen.

Barry, is it a blue car? Lots of aftermarket electrical "accesories" under the hood? I remeber seeing a much (but none too tastefully!) modified 68 GT500 (non KR) at Jack Mezzomo`s shop, Pro Speed in Burnaby years ago,and I noticed the S engine code on the VIN tag.

It isn't the convertible with the big fender flares that had twin turbos on the 428 back around 1980 is it?
